This week we caught up with one of our newest Advisory Board members, Elias Chavando, to get his thoughts about what motivated him to join the Marketplace Risk Advisory Board.

Elias has successfully consulted and trained sales teams in marketplaces worldwide. Currently President & CEO of Progresando.com, an emerging marketplace targeting North America’s market. Former Director of Autotrader.com and Founder of Reagan.com. Elias started his career in the industry in 1994 for the print classifieds magazine Recycler.com.

Our Advisory Board is the very lifeblood of everything we do at Marketplace Risk. From conferences and virtual events to resources and advice for startups, our board takes a hands-on approach to providing indispensable insight and guidance, drawing on their broad experience that spans a multitude of platforms and industries. We are so excited to welcome Elias to the Advisory Board!

As Marketplace Risk continues to grow, we have expanded our Advisory Board, with calls for new members who can use their skills and experience to help startups. We asked Elias a few questions to get to know him better:

What interests / fascinates you most about marketplaces / the sharing economy?

The ability to empower people to buy and sell without intermediaries.

How were you first introduced to marketplaces / the sharing economy?

My parents had a stationery store in Mexico and their business was one of the largest hubs where people could place a written ad for the classified ads in newspapers back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

The best salesman in the world.

What motivates you the most about your business/platform?

The person-to-person and company-to-person business interaction. The trade of merchandise and services.

Who inspires you from a business point of view?

I get my inspiration from 2 or 3 Saints who had the ability to sell their ideas to disbelievers.

What’s your favourite social media channel, and what was the last thing you posted on it?

Linkedin. A poll about the use of facemasks in planes.

What do you think the world of marketplaces / sharing economy will look like in 10 years?

We are moving into the eCommerce 5.0 world. A world without intermediaries where managing risks, safety, and trust will be the key component of every transaction.
