Advisory Board Spotlight: Lieke van Kerkhoven, Co-Founder and Director at FLOOW2

Updated: Jul 14, 2022

This week we caught up with one of our newest Advisory Board members, Lieke van Kerkhoven, to get her thoughts about what motivated her to join the Marketplace Risk Advisory Board.

Lieke is co-founder and director of FLOOW2, the leading B2B marketplace solutions provider. Since FLOOW2 was founded in 2012, she has been pioneering the circular economy and platform economy and knows many of the do’s and don’ts from personal experience.

Our Advisory Board is the very lifeblood of everything we do at Marketplace Risk. From conferences and virtual events to resources and advice for startups, our board takes a hands-on approach to providing indispensable insight and guidance, drawing on their broad experience that spans a multitude of platforms and industries. We are so excited to welcome Lieke to the Advisory Board!

As Marketplace Risk continues to grow, we have expanded our Advisory Board, with calls for new members who can use their skills and experience to help startups. We asked Lieke a few questions to get to know her better:

What interests / fascinates you most about marketplaces / the sharing economy?

As a tech-entrepreneur I have developed a deep interest in the correlation between personal development, sustainability and tech inventions. Very often we solely focus on the physical product, the technology itself, but this is just what I call ‘the outside’, we neglect the ‘inside’ which is how we think and behave. If we want a sustainable system shift, which is very often the reason and driver of platform founders, we need to focus on this inside too. If you ignore it, and you come with your sustainable product in a non-sustainable ecosystem, you are like a toddler trying to get the square peg to fit the round hole: it will cause friction and frustration. Consciousness of this context is essential. I regularly speak and write about this topic. I wrote this article, if it interests you.

How were you first introduced to marketplaces / the sharing economy?

I studied medicine and had been working in several managerial and organizational positions in healthcare organizations in The Netherlands and abroad for 10 years. I experienced first-hand how much we benefited from sharing assets with neighboring organizations, in the first place financially, but certainly also socially and environmentally. This sharing happened all through informal networks though and involved mass-emails and very inefficient processes: that what inspired me to create a digital platform.

What motivates you the most about your business/platform?

We provide organisations with a very practical and hands-on tool to become more sustainable in a financial as well as ecological sense. Through facilitating collaboration and transparency, we contribute to more flexible and resilient ecosystems.

Who inspires you from a business point of view?

My children: they follow their heart and do everything with complete passion, oblivious to what others may think, how appropriate or convenient it is, or what may happen after…

What do you think the world of marketplaces / sharing economy will look like in 10 years?

The habit of sharing and using each others resources has become common practice, but the platforms themselves have been disrupted by Blockchain
