Advisory Board Spotlight: Kevin Lee, VP of Trust and Safety at Sift


This week we caught up with one of our Advisory Board members, Kevin Lee, to get better acquainted with him!

Kevin is the VP of Trust and Safety at Sift. Building high-performing teams and systems to combat malicious online behavior are what drive him. Prior to Sift, Kevin worked as a manager at Facebook, Square, and Google in various risk, spam, and trust and safety roles.

Our Advisory Board is the very lifeblood of everything we do at Marketplace Risk. From conferences and virtual events to resources and advice for startups, our board takes a hands-on approach to providing indispensable insight and guidance, drawing on their broad experience that spans a multitude of platforms and industries. We asked Kevin a few questions to get to know him better:

Tell us what you do in / your connection to the marketplace / sharing economy space.

I'm the VP of Trust and Safety at Sift. I advise companies how to protect themselves and their users against various forms of online abuse.


What interests / fascinates you most about marketplaces / the sharing economy?

Enabling anyone/everyone to connect with others at a local or global level.


How were you first introduced to marketplaces / the sharing economy?

I found one of my first roommates on craigslist back in 2005.


What did you want to be when you were growing up?

An Architect.


What motivates you the most about your business/platform?

Building a tool that helps everyone trust the internet.


Do your friends and family understand what you do?

Not really, they think I'm an online cop.


What one or two things do you do each day religiously?

Drink coffee and make breakfast for my kids.


Who inspires you from a business point of view?

Brené Brown.


What’s your favourite social media channel, and what was the last thing you posted on it?

Instagram. I don't post anything. I just follow people.


What do you think the world of marketplaces / sharing economy will look like in 10 years?

From a Trust and Safety perspective people will have a single unique digital and physical identity that will be used to create safe, authentic and seamless on and offline interactions.
