This week we caught up with one of our newest Advisory Board members, Marco Piovesan, to get his thoughts about what motivated him to join the Marketplace Risk Advisory Board.
Marco is currently the CRO at Demyst. He is a founder, leader, and investor in some of the most successful global Data-as-a-Service platform companies. This data has had a role in fueling financial inclusion, growth of Sharing Economy companies, and enabling trust economies. Other than this life revolves around family, friends, writing film scripts, and enjoying life.
Our Advisory Board is the very lifeblood of everything we do at Marketplace Risk. From conferences and virtual events to resources and advice for startups, our board takes a hands-on approach to providing indispensable insight and guidance, drawing on their broad experience that spans a multitude of platforms and industries. As Marketplace Risk continues to grow, we have expanded our Advisory Board, with calls for new members who can use their skills and experience to help startups. We asked Marco a few questions to get to know him better:
Tell us what you do in / your connection to the marketplace / sharing economy space.
Since then I have been involved with numerous marketplace / sharing economy companies trying to provide the best solutions to Trust & Safety critical issues for many years.
What interests / fascinates you most about marketplaces / the sharing economy?
The creativity and grit of founders to go for it and build marketplaces that fundamentally change economies, lifestyle, and livelihoods for the positive.
How were you first introduced to marketplaces / the sharing economy?
Invested over 10 years ago in an early stage Marketplace company in the travel industry, and wish I had invested more. And, like everyone, using rideshare services and apartment sharing services in the early years, and reading articles about the need for Trust & Safety.
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
A Formula One driver. I still get too many speeding tickets.
What motivates you the most about your business/platform?
How easy our external data platform has made critical global data available for marketplace and sharing economy companies. When a customer says: “wow”.
What one or two things do you do each day religiously?
Walk my dogs and drink coffee.
Who inspires you from a business point of view?
Elon Musk.
What’s your favourite social media channel, and what was the last thing you posted on it?
Linkedin. Congratulations to a friend of mine for raising additional capital.
What do you think the world of marketplaces / sharing economy will look like in 10 years?
Trusted communities. Shared experiences. Less borders. Creative financial exchanges between users. Hopefully, respectful stewards of people’s data and reputations, and not abusers.
