Nicotine, Reinvented: Staying Ahead of a Category Regulators Struggle Pin Down

Sep 15, 2026

From:

2:15 PM

To:

2:45 PM

- Ted James, Global Risk Management Counsel, LegitScript
- Luca Jarone, Key Account Manager, LegitScript
- Andrew Masterleo, Head of Monetized Policy, Trust & Safety, Spotify

Developments in nicotine keep moving faster than the rules meant to govern them. New devices, new nicotine sources, and new delivery formats show up faster than FDA authorizations, state laws, or platform policies can keep pace. For marketplaces and social platforms, that gap turns into real exposure: banned listings that slip through, user generated content that promotes unauthorized products, and customers who buy items that get yanked off shelves nationwide. This session gets you up to speed on the nicotine landscape. We'll cover what's authorized for sale in the US under the FDA's Premarket Tobacco Product Application process, how synthetic and non-tobacco nicotine changed the compliance picture, and why products like breath strips, mints, and toothpicks laced with nicotine sit in a regulatory blind spot most platforms haven't accounted for. We'll also dig into how US and EU rules diverge on synthetic nicotine, since a product restricted in one jurisdiction might be sold freely in another. You'll leave with a better understanding of what's legal to advertise and sell, where PACT Act shipping and age verification rules bite hardest, and practical checkpoints for catching unauthorized ENDS products before they show up in your ads, your marketplace, or your users' posts.

Reducing the Time to Detect and Mitigate Emerging Risk Trends

Sep 15, 2026

From:

2:15 PM

To:

2:45 PM

- Nicholas Aldridge, Co-Founder & CEO, MouseCat
- Santanu Chakraborty, Risk Trends Lead, Airbnb

Fraud trends change quickly and can often only be recognized once losses begin materializing. While models and rules are highly effective at detecting historical patterns, quickly identifying and mitigating novel abuse requires risk domain expertise and often significant effort mining data. In this talk, practitioners from Airbnb and MouseCat will discuss how AI has accelerated the identification and mitigation of new trends. Topics will include the latest techniques for clustering users, generating hypotheses, finding potential signals, and translating those into high precision rules.

Building Child Safety Without Surveillance: A Dating Platform Case Study

Sep 15, 2026

From:

2:15 PM

To:

2:45 PM

- Steve Antony, Founder, ChildSafe.dev
- Dave Byrne, Advisor, ChildSafe.dev
- Chelsea Hower, Director of Trust and Safety, Bright Horizons

Dating platforms face a unique child safety challenge: they're designed exclusively for adults, yet minors routinely create accounts by falsifying their age during signup. Traditional age verification methods are either too invasive (requiring ID uploads that deter legitimate users) or too easy to bypass (simple date-of-birth fields). This session explores how Bright Horizons implemented a privacy-first solution that detects minors based on behavioral patterns rather than surveillance. We'll walk through the technical implementation of ChildSafe.dev's on-device AI SDK, which analyzes micro-interactions like typing speed, navigation patterns, and touch-screen pressure to identify child users in real time. Unlike server-based solutions that require uploading user data for analysis, this approach operates entirely within the app's local environment, generating safety scores without collecting biometric data or PII.

Identity Doesn't End at Onboarding: Why Trust Must Become Continuous

Sep 15, 2026

From:

3:10 PM

To:

3:40 PM

- Sidant Bahl, Sr. Risk Strategist, Mercury
- Colin Bilcheck, Senior Data Scientist, Gemini
- Tom Burns, Head of Sales - Midmarket & Partnerships, Microblink
- Kunal Shalia, Lead Product Manager, Risk & Identity, Flex

For years, organizations treated identity verification as a single event performed during account creation. But today's fraudsters rarely attack only at the onboarding stage. They return during account recovery, payment updates, seller verification, loyalty abuse, account takeover, and high-value transactions. This session explores why identity is becoming a continuous decision rather than a one-time verification and how leading marketplaces are connecting identity, payments, behavioral intelligence, and biometrics throughout the customer lifecycle. Attendees will learn: - Why onboarding-only verification creates dangerous blind spots. - How AI enables fraudsters to reuse trusted accounts long after initial verification. - When to introduce step-up verification without harming conversion. - How continuous identity signals improve both fraud prevention and customer experience.
