The Over-Regulation Trap: When Trust & Safety Rules Backfire

From:

TBD

To:

TBD

- Juliana Araújo, Director of Product Management, Skyscanner
- Naiara Pereira Cunha, VP of Global Delivery and Head of Legal Affairs, Besedo Global

As the regulatory landscape evolves, so do the challenges for those building responsible tech. Rules like the UK’s Online Safety Act and the EU’s DSA are important, but for global platforms, navigating a patchwork of overlapping, sometimes conflicting frameworks is becoming a serious obstacle. Too much regulation risks stalling innovation and making compliance unworkable. Too little (or poorly defined rules) leave users and platforms exposed. This session looks at what happens when regulation is either excessive or falls short. From the perspective of platforms operating across multiple jurisdictions, this session explores how Trust & Safety strategies and teams are adapting to stay compliant without killing platforms’ product innovation.

Rethinking Trust in Marketplaces: From Digital Wallets to Social Identity

At the same time, alternative trust signals—such as LinkedIn’s verified badges, professional networks, and reputation systems—are reshaping how identity is expressed online. In this session, LinkedIn and Persona share real examples from LinkedIn’s acceptance of digital IDs and explore how marketplaces can rethink identity—blending official credentials with community-driven signals to create experiences that are secure, portable, and user-first.
