Senior Tech Product Lead
About me:
Apurva is a Senior Product Lead specializing in payments infrastructure, disbursement platforms, and financial crime compliance. With over a decade of experience across global technology companies, card networks, and financial institutions, he sits at the intersection of payments technology, identity verification, and marketplace risk — bringing both practitioner depth and strategic breadth to some of the most consequential challenges facing digital platforms today.
Apurva’s career has been defined by a singular focus: building the compliance and payments infrastructure that allows marketplaces, platforms, and financial institutions to move money reliably, safely, and at scale. He has led product strategy for large-scale disbursement platforms, cross-border payments, and multi-vendor KYC platform design — work that governs how platforms identify, verify, and disburse to millions of sellers, gig workers, and business partners worldwide. His product portfolios have encompassed cross-border compliance, fraud control frameworks, and disbursement controls that balance payout velocity with identity and financial crime risk.
A core thread across his career is the conviction that identity assurance cannot be treated as a one-time onboarding checkpoint. In marketplace ecosystems, risk is dynamic — seller behavior shifts, account credentials change hands, and fraud patterns evolve faster than static rule systems can adapt. Apurva has built and led product programs that embed identity verification into the disbursement flow itself, operationalizing the principle that the moment of payout is one of the highest-risk — and most underutilized — control points in the payments stack.
Prior to his current role, Apurva held senior positions at Visa and Verifi, where he worked on chargeback dispute resolution infrastructure and fraud signal networks serving financial institutions globally. This cross-industry career arc gives him a rare vantage point: he has seen marketplace risk from the card network, the issuer, and the platform — and understands how misaligned incentives across these layers create the gaps that fraud exploits.
His research and thought leadership extend his practitioner work into the academic arena. Apurva is a co-author of peer-reviewed publications examining identity assurance in cross-border disbursement ecosystems, the governance challenges of multi-vendor embedded AI in financial services, and the application of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to payout compliance automation.
As a speaker and panelist, Apurva brings the operational credibility of someone who has built compliance and risk systems inside large-scale marketplace environments, combined with the clarity of a product leader who must translate regulatory complexity into engineering requirements and business outcomes. He brings to Marketplace Risk 2026 a perspective forged at scale — and a practitioner’s understanding of what it actually takes to build risk infrastructure that is simultaneously robust enough to stop financial crime and nimble enough to keep a global marketplace moving.
